Restoration steeplejacks inspect and restore the highest sections of tall buildings. Experts in construction and restoration techniques, they repair masonry, carpentry and roofing, apply paint and other coatings, and perform other tasks such as installing aircraft warning lights on tall buildings.
These skilled tradespeople typically:
- install and use rappelling equipment, bosun’s chairs, high ladders, specialized scaffolding and elevated work platforms
- inspect and assess building damage and perform repairs
- assist in demolishing tall buildings
Restoration steeplejacks work on structures including church steeples, clock towers, radio antennas, industrial chimneys, suspension bridges and airport control towers.
