Also called Reinforcing Ironworkers
Rebar Installers fabricate and place steel bars (rebar) in concrete forms to reinforce structures. They also install post-tensioning tendons (cables) in concrete forms and use hydraulic jacks and pumps to stress the tendons after the concrete is poured and hardened.
In general, rebar installers:
- read blueprints and plan workflow
- prepare scaffolding, hoisting equipment and rigging to move heavy equipment and materials
- attach cables and direct crane operators
- select, cut, bend, position, and secure steel bars or wire mesh in forms to reinforce concrete
- perform post tensioning
Rebar installers are employed in residential, commercial and industrial projects.
