Instrumentation Technicians install, maintain, and repair instrumentation that ensures the safe and proper operation of machines in industrial plants. They may also constantly monitor, calibrate and adjust this instrumentation, which often performs critical industrial functions such as regulating water flow in equipment or monitoring air quality in a facility.
These skilled technicians typically:
- consult manuals, read and interpret circuit diagrams, blueprints and schematics
- inspect and test instruments and systems
- repair and adjust components and remove and replace defective parts
- calibrate components and instruments
- perform scheduled preventative maintenance work
- write maintenance reports
- install control and measurement instruments on existing or new plant equipment
