Also called Surface Blaster

Blasters use explosives to demolish structures, dislodge rock at road or other construction sites, and dislodge rock and ore in quarries and mines. They typically plan and drill patterns of blast holes, fill the holes with explosives, prepare wires and fuses and detonate the explosions.

Blasters need to:

  • read and interpret instructions and diagrams
  • handle a range of drilling equipment
  • conduct field tests to assess kinds and quantities of explosives needed for a job
  • use electrical wiring, fuses and detonators
  • transport, store and handle explosives safely
  • communicate with and/or direct other construction team members
