Why become certified with a union?
Becoming certified with one of Canada’s building trades unions can help you earn better pay, health benefits and pensions, and provide you with greater opportunities for advancement and continuous work through a dispatch system.
The dispatch system helps to keep you employed by connecting you to new jobs or contracts in the event that you are laid off, your current contract has ended, or you’re returning to work after a short- or long-term leave.
Why do I need a collective agreement?
When you become certified with a union, the union becomes your exclusive bargaining agent for collective agreements. Your union negotiates pay raises, workplace safety, pension contributions and benefits, as well as ensuring training and skills development opportunities within collective agreements. Without these agreements, employers are free to make decisions without your best interests in mind. All collective agreement consultations involve members, so your voice and your views can be directly reflected in negotiations and the final contract.
