Sheet metal workers who work with architectural metal and panels lay out, fabricate and install building components, such as gutters, skylights, paneled roofs, cornices, downspouts and copulas. Common materials used include copper, aluminum, galvanized, galvalume, lead-coated copper, stainless steel and gold plated steel. Panels are installed on a roof using three different seams: baton, standing and flat seams.

Understanding the metallurgy behind the metals you are working with is critical. Each one has a different co-efficient for expansion and contraction. We commonly see this type of exposed work done on churches, cathedrals and government buildings. Many architects use this type of roofing when designing elaborate building structures.
