I was interested in design and carpentry from a young age, a trait that ran in my family. I worked a number of design jobs before becoming a carpenter. I enjoyed it, but I could never shake my interest in how my designs were constructed and my hunger to design and build. Carpentry allowed me to have the best of both worlds.

It took a while before I gained the courage to actually apply for the program and start my first block. I looked into applying several times before I took the plunge. Thankfully, I had incredible mentors who gave me the motivation to keep going. Getting support from other women and knowing I was not alone helped me through the program. For other women interested in the trades, it’s important to follow your dreams! Nothing is more important than doing what you love and what makes you happy. That’s why I’m in carpentry
