Sheet Metal, Air, Rail and Transportation Workers (SMART), Local 30 Scarborough, ONTARIO

My start in sheetmetal was born out of a need for something different. I was working dead-end jobs until a friend encouraged me to take the aptitude test. My first job in the trades was installing commercial-size ductwork, and I discovered my passion for working with my hands on the first day.

Today, I create true pieces of art through copper restoration and ornamental work with Heather and Little. If you’re a woman considering the trades, I can’t stress this enough: just do it! We do not have to conform to the idea of femininity that is promoted everywhere in our society. Stop entertaining any thoughts of self-doubt, and go for it!
